Debian and libmotif3
If you run ANSYS on Debian, you may encounter the following error message:
error while loading shared libraries: libXm.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
For licensing reasons, Open Motif is not included with Debian. However, you can download the .deb file from here to allow you to run ANSYS on Debian. Use “sudo dpkg -i libmotif3…” to install.
(For those unfamiliar with Motif, it is a GUI toolkit that is the foundation of CDE, which was popular for many commercial UNIX systems. Open Motif and LessTif are free implementations of Motif. Because ANSYS was developed decades ago, it used Motif, in comparison to the relatively newer Qt use for CFX products, for example. The Tcl/Tk ANSYS GUI was introduced around version 6.0 or so.)
Good afternoon,
I’m a user of ANSYS, and I want to migrate from windows to linux. In this moment I have installed ANSYS11 on Ubuntu9.04. but don’t works fine ansys workbench (I can’t launching workbench because apear error “segmentation fault”).
My question is very simple: ANSYS11 works fine on Debian? All modules from ANSYS11 works fine and can be launching on Debian ?
Thank you in advance for support.
Best regards.
All ANSYS products except for ANSYS Workbench 11.0 work fine on Debian.
Ubuntu is based off of Debian, so you should consider them to be similar.
